Hermosa Beach staff announced a new partnership with Culture Club, a South Bay community platform that provides free beach youth camps, with plans to run the camps in Hermosa Beach next spring.
Staff said Culture Club (founded 2020 by Allison Hales) runs free spring and fall youth beach camps in nearby cities and will bring a similar program to Hermosa Beach in 2026. The city will provide space at no cost; Culture Club staffs the camps with volunteers and is responsible for insurance requirements. Staff told commissioners they will present the partnership to city council in January and issue a formal press release and promotion through city communications in February.
Commissioners asked about program capacity and delivery; staff estimated sessions typically accommodate as many as about 60 children and said partner organizations assist with activities such as surfing, volleyball and arts-and-crafts. Staff said the free camps tend to fill quickly and that outreach will begin once council has been briefed.
Next step: staff will present the partnership to council in January and begin promotional outreach through city channels in early February.
