Austin Deweese, the city’s special-events coordinator, told council the Parks Commission recommended: a beach collegiate national-team training block (June 9–12, north of the pier between 10th and 15th streets); a series of Beach Tennis Cali Club tournaments at several weekend dates in 2026; and a System 4 Ice beach volleyball tournament on June 13 that could include amplified announcements and background music.
Councilmembers asked whether the USA‑hosted world championship trials were part of the same item; Deweese clarified the world championship trials had already been reviewed by the Parks Commission and was a separate, previously approved item. Council then approved the staff recommendation to add the three events to the 2026 calendar by roll call.
The events will be added to the city’s special‑events calendar and staff will coordinate required permits and event conditions with producers before final approvals.
