Hammond, La. — The Hammond City Council appointed Courtney Mahler to a four‑year term on the Hammond District Commission on Nov. 18, filling the seat through Dec. 31, 2029.
Staff presented Mahler’s background in anthropology, archaeology and cultural resource management and noted her applied experience with archaeological surveys and historic research. Mahler told the council she plans to focus on preserving historic cemeteries, pursue National Register recognition for neglected sites and develop programs to maintain local burial grounds.
Councilmembers thanked Mahler for serving; the motion to appoint carried unanimously among those present.
