Council approves purchases of rifles, attachments and ticket-writer replacements

Council authorized the purchase of 26 rifles from Pro Force Law Enforcement for $44,671.12, citing the need to replace older rifles and equip frontline officers. Staff said some of the new rifles would go to frontline units while older rifles would be rotated to detectives and support personnel. The chief noted new rifles permit mounting suppressors for indoor training and hearing protection; council approved the purchase by roll call.
A companion item authorized rifle attachments and accessories (sighting systems, suppressors, slings and lights) from multiple vendors, with an aggregate lowest-quote total of $38,549.57. Staff said components come from several vendors and will be configured per equipment standards.
Separately, the council approved a budgeted, Sourcewell-contract purchase of 10 ticket writers and 10 Bluetooth printers from Tyler Technologies for $35,917. Staff said eight ticket-writer devices recently failed due to software incompatibility and the replacements were already on the capital calendar; council approved advancing the purchase.
All items passed by roll call. Staff said funds are budgeted in the appropriate funds (general fund and fund 12) and procurement follows the quoted contract arrangements.
