Council accepts $250,000 Ralph C. Wilson Foundation grant to advance ALCC campus phase 2

The Monroe City Council voted unanimously to accept a $250,000 Community Hub grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation to help fund phase 2 of the ALCC campus redevelopment.
Economic development director Mark Cochran told council the grant will fund design and initial implementation of a multipurpose facility that would house Joe's Boxing Club, provide space for cultural and neighborhood events, and support a food-truck entrepreneurship pilot coordinated with Community Reimagined and the city’s commercial kitchen. Cochran said the proposal leverages previous city investment (a $350,000 community kitchen) and aims to create space for local entrepreneurship, arts programming and youth mentoring.
Councilwoman Stillgrave moved to accept the grant, authorize the assistant city manager and director of economic and community development to execute necessary agreements, and authorize budget amendments by the finance director. The council approved the motion on roll call with all members voting yes.
Council members and public speakers, including representatives from Joe's Boxing Club, applauded the grant and emphasized mentorship and programming for youth as key expected outcomes. The council directed staff to execute necessary agreements and amend city budgets to record the grant.
