New 'Men on a Mission' group launches job-and-resource fair to connect residents with employers

The group — a core 11 of community leaders — described an immediate initiative: an Opportunity Job & Resource Fair set for Nov. 5 at the Opportunity Center.
Aaron Lavender said the objective of the fair is practical: connect job seekers with employers, educators, Michigan Works and on-site services to remove barriers such as missing identification or licensing. Tolsted and other members said partners will include Monroe Public Schools, Michigan Works, the library (resume assistance) and local unions for skilled-trades positions. The group described rehearsal and planning meetings in late October and outreach materials to be distributed in the city.
Members framed the initiative as action-oriented, not purely symbolic, and said they would focus on concrete workforce outcomes for adults and young people who face barriers to employment. Council members thanked the group and noted several city departments and community partners that will support the event.
The presentation concluded with an invitation for community members and employers to participate; organizers said flyers and additional information would be circulated to council and the public.
