Long Beach council approves package of routine contracts, budget adjustments and hearings

The Long Beach City Council on Oct. 7 adopted a package of routine resolutions that included software licensing, budget transfers and capital budget updates, ratification of emergency repairs and the purchase of a new fire pumper.
In a block motion moved by a council member and seconded from the floor, the council approved items 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11. Roll call recorded affirmative votes from Council member Bendo, Council member Lester, Council member Reinhart, Vice President (as spoken) and President Finn.
Among the items advanced in the block vote: authorization for a one‑year Municity software maintenance and licensing agreement at just over $20,000 for the year; a roughly $8,500 transfer in the Water Department to cover vacation accrual payouts for two employees under the city’s contract with CSEA; nearly $4 million in state reimbursement for the North Shore critical infrastructure project to be added back into the capital projects fund; ratification of an emergency contract to replace failed City Hall water and fire service lines (Allen Industries, $47,850); and authorization to purchase a new fire pumper included in the 2025 capital budget for just over $1.5 million.
The council also authorized publication for hearings on traffic safety planning and on a proposed local law amending the city charter regarding reassessment and tax collection; both hearings are scheduled for Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
The block vote moved routine items forward while leaving more contested or detailed items — retention of an appraisal consultant for pending litigation, a design contract for East Bay Drive and a license for boardwalk seating — to separate discussion and votes later in the meeting.
