The Leawood Planning Commission unanimously approved a revised final development plan on Oct. 28 for a courtyard renovation at the Johnson County Pioneer Library.
Staff described the project as a 3,102‑square‑foot renovation that adds three alcoves with benches and lighting and a primary courtyard with a perforated shade structure; 1,072 square feet will be landscaped and the net impervious area will increase by about 630 square feet. Planner Taylor Burt told the commission the proposal meets Leawood Development Ordinance requirements and staff recommended approval with 13 stipulations.
Applicant Brad Clark, representing the project team, said the plan seeks to create a welcoming, well‑lit amenity that resolves a previously awkward pass‑through area and complies with police lighting recommendations under review. Commissioners praised the added device‑charging stations and the community benefits of a programmed courtyard.
The commission approved Case PC‑9825 unanimously; signage changes will require separate sign‑permit review.
