Parents seek council support for nonprofit to aid young adults with disabilities

Sabrina Tremblay and Becky Owens told the City Council on Oct. 7 that they are launching Young Employment Success Lake Oswego (branded in the presentation as YesHello) to help local young adults with disabilities find employment and volunteer opportunities after they age out of school transition programs.
Tremblay described the nonprofit’s first concept as a culinary and barista training program that would become a community hub called the Living Room of Lake Oswego. Becky Owens, speaking from a parent’s perspective, said the end of school-based transition services leaves families seeking meaningful local options for their adult children and framed the group’s work as an effort to give young adults “dignity, independence and a sense of belonging.”
Both presenters asked the council for guidance, encouragement and collaboration as the nonprofit develops its strategic plan and community partnerships. Council members thanked the presenters and expressed support; no formal council action was requested or taken at the meeting.
