Public events director previews 'Hometown Christmas' lineup in Owensboro

Tim Ross, the city’s public events director, told the Owensboro City Commission on Sept. 2 that this year’s "Hometown Christmas" will again wrap downtown activities together with nightly dancing lights and a slate of special events aimed at drawing visitors and supporting downtown businesses. "So nightly, folks can enjoy the dancing lights with the music that are down there every night from 5PM to 9PM," Ross said.
Ross said the city’s tree lighting and related events brought more than 60,000 people downtown last year from the tree lighting through the holiday season, with activity at River Park, the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and the Convention Center. Upcoming events he named include a Ricky Skaggs concert at the Bluegrass Museum, a reindeer run fundraiser hosted by Care Net, a downtown holiday stroll and a Hot Chocolate Hop featuring local businesses.
Mayor Tom Watson and commissioners questioned logistics during a brief question-and-answer period. When Watson asked who installed the large downtown tree, Ross replied that Public Works handled the installation and that the department also maintains most of the lights and wreaths downtown.
Ross directed residents to the city’s social pages for the full event schedule and said staff will continue to update those pages with details in the coming weeks. "So come downtown, enjoy the lights, and, enjoy the holiday season," he said.
