The Oakdale City Council unanimously approved a staff resolution supporting submission of five competitive grant applications for bike, pedestrian and road projects intended to improve safety and connectivity.
Staff described the five proposed applications to grant programs the city has used before (including a congestion mitigation/air quality program and the Surface Transportation Block Grant program). Projects cited in the presentation included improvements in the Fair Oaks vicinity, Sierra Avenue, 6th Avenue (bike/ped and road elements tied to an adjacent G Street project), the high school vicinity and Yosemite Avenue. Staff said some projects were selected to improve grading and scoring under grant instructions and that selected segments tie into other planned infrastructure work such as a sewer force-main rebuild.
Councilmembers praised the targeted approach and the staff packet; one member noted the applications prioritize school-area access and safety. Staff estimated an approximate total funding need over the next five years and said any awarded funds and individual projects would return to the council for project-level approval. The motion to approve submission of the five applications passed on a roll-call vote of 4–0.
Next steps: staff will submit the five grant applications and return to council with project-level proposals and budgets if the city receives awards.
