Oroville city leaders honored Amy Bergstrand, the city’s business assistance and housing development director, and announced the city received a 2024 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award to buy firefighting equipment and fund local drainage work. A city representative presented Bergstrand a plaque “with deep appreciation for your dedication and hard work in securing over $3,100,000 in grant funding” and described the broader award.
City staff said the official 2024 CDBG award totals $3,600,000 and will pay for a new fire engine, a ladder truck and related costly equipment, and will also fund a drainage study for South Oroville. The councilroom recognition noted Bergstrand has previously written and secured multiple grants that strengthened the Oroville Fire Department’s resources.
The item was presented during the department-heads portion of the meeting; councilmembers and staff praised the grant work and the employee’s contributions. In brief remarks, staff said the grant award will also support domestic-violence services and other public-safety investments scheduled for public hearings later in the council calendar.
Councilmembers took no additional action at the moment beyond public acknowledgement; staff will proceed with procurement and project planning and return to council with any budget amendments or contract awards related to the purchases.
