Public comments urge firmer building-code enforcement; one resident opposes transit agreement

During public comment David Wardell, a self-described certified building inspector with decades of construction experience, told the council that much of the current construction in the jurisdiction does not meet code and urged the council to support the building department when it begins stricter enforcement. Wardell said unskilled framing and sloppy work are widespread and urged the council not to succumb to political pressure to relax enforcement; he offered his expertise to staff.
Michael Law made a separate public-comment statement opposing the cooperative agreement between Valley Regional Transit and the City of Kuna. Law said public transportation is not the proper role of government and argued taxpayers who do not use services should not subsidize them; he described the funding arrangement as "extortion" in his remarks.
Council and staff did not provide additional on-the-record rebuttals to those two public-comment items in the recorded segments. Mayor and staff thanked the speakers for their input and moved on to the public hearing and subsequent agenda items.
