GMWSS reports wastewater plant milestone; council approves several utilities purchase orders

Georgetown — At the Oct. 13 meeting the Georgetown‑Scott County Water and Sewer System (GMWSS) reported a major construction milestone for Wastewater Treatment Plant 1 and asked the council to approve several budgeted procurement and pay application items.
Chase of GMWSS reviewed a package of requests that included a $15,600 purchase order to Lovo Inc. to replace a variable frequency drive at the Wright’s Lane pump station and a $25,785.12 contract with Borkin Industrial for masonry repairs at Wastewater Treatment Plant No. 2. Both procurement items were competitively quoted and recommended for approval.
Pay application No. 54 to Judy Construction in the amount of $389,967.89 was presented in tandem with a project update: GMWSS said the new sequential batch reactor biological treatment and an aeration/oxygenation step are in place and that today marks a contractual 'beneficial use' milestone with the first connection from the Cane Run pump station. Staff said they will gradually introduce wastewater to the new process and that remaining work (notably site paving) will follow.
"This is a contractual milestone for beneficial use," the GMWSS presenter said, describing testing that has circulated potable and treated water to validate systems before introducing full flows.
Council approved the purchase orders and the pay application by voice vote. Officials said one remaining change order for paving is likely but expected to be within project contingency.
