Council considered whether to authorize the mayor to obtain quotes and initial consultant input to determine the scope and cost of a City Hall roof replacement. The mayor said he was not a subject-matter expert on roofing and asked for consultations to determine square footage, removal of the steeple and options such as a metal roof. "Most of them will not" charge for initial quotes, he said, and said he would turn the bidding process over to Infrastructure once a scope was known.
The mayor estimated a ballpark cost "about a 100,000, maybe a little bit more" and said capital funds have been set aside to cover the work if sponsor approval is delayed or does not materialize. Council members emphasized doing the work right and avoiding a repeating cycle of patch repairs and rejected insurance claims.
Action taken: Council authorized the mayor to solicit consultations and cost estimates and to coordinate with Infrastructure for posting solicitations and bids as appropriate.
