Council accepts county deed for half‑mile Centennial trail extension

City Attorney Field Harrington told council that Kootenai County has deeded approximately a half‑mile section of Prairie Trail property (extending from the city’s existing trail to McGuire) to the city. Harrington said the transfer was deeded with no strings attached and will help the city consolidate ownership and maintenance responsibility for the trail extension.
Harrington said staff had previously discussed the matter with council in executive session and that the parcel is immediately adjacent to city limits, noting the city already owns property at the trail’s end used for wastewater outfall. He recommended council accept the deed; a motion to accept was made, seconded and passed by roll call.
Council asked whether there are preexisting maintenance liabilities in the transferred half‑mile; the attorney said none were known. The transfer will make the city responsible for ongoing maintenance of that trail segment.
