Pharr golf director reports October profit, describes pump failure and staffing change

The report to the commission on the golf course, pro shop and kitchen highlighted several operational developments that month. Burrowski said October’s total rounds exceeded the 100,000 mark for the first time and that a cluster of events — including the Drive for Trade tournament staged with the bridge department — helped boost retail sales and participation.
"For the month of October, we saw revenues of $104,794.37," Burrowski said. He credited tournament prizes and gift certificates for lifting retail sales, saying that retail revenue was about $8,965 higher than the prior October.
Burrowski described a recent pump installation as a notable infrastructure upgrade but said it produced "growing pains." "The new pump is terrific when it works correctly," he said, and added that the pump’s high output damaged a transformer and "it also blew out, the circuit breakers inside the car shed," leaving staff several days without electricity for carts. Staff coordinated with AEP and electricians to replace the transformer and restore service; meanwhile crews charged carts using extension cords during events to keep tournaments running.
He showed before-and-after footage of irrigation performance at Hole 17 and said the improved pressure addressed previous dry spots on the fairway. Burrowski also noted two fountains installed on Hole 17, enabled in part by an agreement with the homeowners association to draw power from a mailbox station, and thanked Lowe’s and city utilities electricians for assistance.
On staffing and organization, Burrowski said the Parks and Recreation structure was reorganized in October into three departments — maintenance, recreation and a separate parks/grounds/buildings unit — with new departmental leads. He also told commissioners that the superintendent who had overseen both golf and maintenance "resigned," and praised long-time crew leader Santos for his experience. The transcript records Burrowski’s statement that "He resigned" without naming the resigning person in that particular segment.
Burrowski described the kitchen operations and community partnerships as well: AARP services have resumed, the kitchen supplies homemade tortillas and salsas, and staff adjust opening times seasonally. He also urged members and patrons to use golf shop credits and highlighted new Ashworth inventory and other merchandise available ahead of year-end.
The commission voted to accept the monthly reports and then adjourned. No further action or policy changes were made during the meeting.
