Newton communications director Erin honored as Kansas Communicator of the Year

The Newton City Commission used part of its Nov. 12 meeting to recognize Erin, the city’s communications director, who received the 2025 Kansas Communicator of the Year award from the Kansas Association of Public Information Officers.
Daniela (city staff) introduced the recognition and said Erin’s leadership has elevated municipal communications. "She's an exceptional director of communications, and we're really, really lucky and blessed to have her," Daniela said. Colleague Chad said he has worked in town for decades and praised Erin’s responsiveness: "Erin is the best. There is no second place." Another colleague lauded Erin’s ability to build trust and consistent relationships with local media.
Erin accepted the recognition and said she was "surprised" at the conference and appreciates being able to serve her hometown. Commissioners and staff offered public thanks and brief remarks of congratulations.
No formal action was required; the recognition was a ceremonial item on the agenda.
