Prior Creek authorizes street department purchases to be reimbursed by Cherokee Nation for new range work

The Prior Creek City Council approved a measure allowing the street department to purchase gravel, asphalt and required culverts for a new range, with the expectation that Cherokee Nation will reimburse the city through funds directed to the police department.
Mayor explained that Cherokee Nation has dedicated funding to law enforcement that can be used for range infrastructure but, because of procurement or accounting constraints, the purchases will be made by the street department and later reimbursed through the police department’s donation. "Cherokee Nation has some funding...but it was dedicated for law enforcement," the mayor said.
Council members discussed legal and accounting measures to document the reimbursement and said a county agreement would also be completed. The cooperative effort named Cherokee Nation, GRDA and Prior Creek police as participants; staff said final deliveries of range base materials and paving would proceed once the gravel and base materials arrive.
The motion passed by voice/roll call; staff will finalize reimbursement agreements and coordinate construction.
