The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission on Nov. 12 approved six commercial sign permits, authorized the release of two performance bonds for Avante Apartments, and took procedural actions on two development filings.
The commission voted, by roll call, to approve sign permits for Hampton Inn (application 2548, 695 Shelton Avenue), Shelton Grove (2549, 1002 Bridgeport Avenue), Glaze Grind (2550, 781 River Road), Ink and Blink Studio (2551, 549 Howe Avenue), and Little Town, LLC (2552, 13–27 Huntington Street). Each sign permit motion passed 6–0 after the subcommittee recommended approval.
Why it matters: the approvals clear recent new-business signs to operate under the city's sign-permit process and allow staff to move forward with enforcement oversight where necessary. The commission also approved staff recommendations to release two performance bonds for 1055 Bridgeport Avenue (the Avante Apartments site) after staff and engineering confirmed required site work and a full growing season had been completed.
Other procedural outcomes: the commission denied, without prejudice, application 25-11 (Harley Complex) after finding the applicant had not submitted required materials identified in the city engineer's review; the motion to deny passed 6–0. Separately, the commission voted 6–0 to "not accept" application 25-22 (a proposed major modification to PDD No. 84 for Alka LLC at 493 Bridgeport Ave.) because staff advised the filing was incomplete and had not gone to WPCA for review. Chair Virginia Harger said staff will notify the applicant of missing items that must be supplied before the application can proceed.
