Romulus Council Approves Multiple Budget Amendments, Appointments and Warrant Payments; $1M SEMCOG Grant Announced

The council also approved reappointments to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority for Michael Hoffman, Emery Long, Randy Moffitt and Dean Trudeau with terms expiring July 13, 2028.
Procurement: Council authorized a piggyback purchase on GSA contract number 47QSWA19D00AS with Ultimate Training Munitions for training equipment totaling $12,248.89, funded by a McColl grant. Staff explained the equipment is new and will enhance realistic de‑escalation and high‑risk‑stop training.
Budget amendments: The council introduced a series of budget amendments including 25‑26‑2 (Ecorse Creek drain repairs and recognition of state grant revenue), 25‑26‑3 (annual bond payment recognition for Downriver obligations), 25‑26‑4 (annual claims expense), 25‑26‑6 (increased single‑hauler collection and disposal costs) and 25‑26‑7 (computer‑aided dispatch maintenance/membership). Several of these were introduced for council consideration after staff described the reasons — for example contractor bid timing, grant opportunities or the city’s share of shared debt obligations.
Warrants and grants: Council approved warrant 25‑19, which the clerk read into the record showing fund totals and a grand total of $3,867,181.87. The mayor announced the city was awarded a $1,000,000 SEMCOG grant to install a sidewalk on Beverly Road; administration said specifications and next steps will be brought back to council.
Public comment and memorials: During public comment, Melanie Hines, a Wayne‑Westland School board trustee, described an upcoming 2025 school bond (noting it was presented as a continuation with no tax increase) and discussed literacy work by the Kiwanis Club. Tony Heimberger requested and council approved a memorial resolution for Jack Wilson, a former city employee and veteran.
