Resident urges outside audit of 2026 adopted budget after document changes

During public comment Christie Bender said she received the adopted 2026 budget book on Oct. 31 and found more than 30 pages of numeric changes from the earlier September draft, including mill levy and FTE counts; she asked the commission to reexamine the document and commission an outside audit to explain the changes to taxpayers.
At the start of public comment on Nov. 12, Pittsburg resident Christie Bender raised concerns about apparent discrepancies between the draft and adopted versions of the 2026 budget.
Bender said the city clerk mailed her the adopted 2026 budget book on Oct. 31 and that she observed more than 30 pages of numbers that had ‘‘markedly changed’’ from a September 9 draft previously provided to commissioners. She identified changes to the mill levy table, specific line items, multi‑year totals and FTE positions and asked the commission to reexamine the budget document, ‘‘call for an outside audit to take place as soon as possible,’’ and provide an explanation to Pittsburg taxpayers.
