The Taft City Council voted Oct. 21 to renew its military-equipment-use ordinance after reviewing the Taft Police Department’s 2024-25 annual report.
City Manager Jones said the report had been presented to the council on Sept. 2, 2025, and that the community had been invited to engage under Assembly Bill 481. The council moved to adopt a resolution renewing Ordinance 847-22, which updates the city’s policy on police use of military equipment. The resolution includes a CEQA exemption determination as set forth in the cited CEQA guidelines.
Council members thanked staff for prior presentations and information. During discussion a council member framed the issue around community safety and Second Amendment considerations; no members spoke in formal opposition during the meeting.
The clerk recorded a roll-call vote: the motion carried on a 5-0 vote.
The council opened a separate, statutorily required public comment opportunity on the report and received no web or in-person comments at the meeting.
