LEPC asks Sulphur residents to review chemical emergency plan; committee offers public input link

Ronald Tower, vice chair of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, briefed the Sulphur City Council on the LEPC’s responsibility to review the chemical emergency response plan annually and to collect public comments. He said the committee is working on revisions for the current year and wants community input.
"Read the plan. It is out there," Tower told the council and attendees and offered a contact pathway through the LEPC website at www.calcasieulepc.com. He said standing committees are open to the public and the LEPC meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Calcasieu OEP, 901 Lakeshore Drive, Lake Charles.
Tower said the LEPC aims to bring community members, industry and government together on chemical emergency planning and asked residents to report concerns about sirens, notifications, odors, or other observations so the committee can consider them for inclusion in the plan. He invited residents and council members to contact LEPC leadership if they or their constituents had questions or information to share.
Cindy Robertson and other residents in the meeting reinforced the importance of public participation and requested broader representation on the LEPC, noting recent resignations had left gaps in environmental, transportation and media representation.
