Council approved a proclamation naming July as Parks and Recreation Month and July 18, 2025 as Parks and Recreation Professionals Day, with staff planning a luncheon at the Hopewell Community Center to honor parks and recreation employees. Council voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation.
During the information presentations Dionne McWilliams, owner and editor of Good News USA (Flavor News), proposed a partnership to distribute a monthly, positivity-focused newspaper in Hopewell. McWilliams described the paper’s history, its distribution model and potential economic benefits through event promotion and advertising. Councilmembers and staff expressed support and asked staff to assist with local distribution; no financial commitment or contract was approved at the meeting.
