Pittsburg to restore JJ Richards bandshell with $243,700 contract; rebids 616 N. Broadway after single bid

The Pittsburg City Commission voted Oct. 14 to award the JJ Richards Bandshell Restoration Project to Mid Central Contract Services of Pittsburg for a low bid of $243,700, authorizing the mayor and city clerk to execute the contract. The project scope includes a new roof and substructure work, tuckpointing, electrical upgrades, an ADA-accessible backstage ramp and a new concrete stage floor.
Project staff said engineers have not yet exposed the full dome damage and recommended a contingency; the city has $250,000 allocated for the project and project managers said they expect to manage contingencies as work proceeds.
Separately, staff reported the rebid for the 616 North Broadway project returned a single, noncompetitive bid and asked the commission to reject the bid and clarify the scope. Commissioners voted to reject the bid and directed staff to reissue the solicitation.
Both procurement decisions were approved by voice vote; staff said further scheduling and design work will follow and that bid documents will be adjusted before reissuing the Broadway project.
