Sulphur council approves multiple ordinances, condemns unsafe structure and OKs demo window

At its Oct. 14 meeting the City of Sulphur City Council approved a package of ordinances and took enforcement action on unsafe structures.
Actions approved by roll call included a rezoning for KAB Investments LLC at 201 Dorian Street to allow a stone warehouse (Ordinance 72-25), amendments and deletions to chapter 13.5 addressing solicitors and solicitation registration (Ordinances including 74-25), and updates to chapter 17 restricting distribution of materials on inhabited private premises and prohibiting placement of handbills on vehicles located on private property.
The council also heard rule-to-show-cause items. After testimony and inspection reports, councilors approved condemnation procedures and set a 30-day demolition/compliance period for the unsafe structure at 1413 Weekley Road; staff said if the owner does not complete demolition or remediation in that window the city will contract the work and bill the owner.
In a separate item the council introduced a four-year cooperative endeavor agreement with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for GIS mapping (Ordinance 80-25) with a payment of $45,500; residents asked that mapping correct address errors.
Most of these ordinance votes carried by voice or roll call with no further substantive amendments reported at the meeting. Specific ordinance numbers and short descriptions are listed below.
