The Whitefish Community Development Board on Oct. 16 unanimously approved WZTA25-05, a city-initiated zoning text amendment to update architectural review standards that currently reference "formula retail," aligning the code language with the City’s July 2025 change to the term "formula business."
Planner Wendy described the amendment as a housekeeping change to replace the older term with the new one in sections 3.1 and 5.9 so the architectural review standards apply consistently where the term appears. “This is really just a housekeeping item,” Wendy said, adding the standard exists to ensure the final design of projects complements the character of Whitefish rather than a corporate template.
The board opened and closed a brief public hearing with no speakers, and Toby moved to approve WZTA25-05 as presented in the staff report. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. The amendment revises language describing Highway 93 South and the W B 1 area in the architectural review exhibit and will move forward as recommended to the City Council for final adoption procedures.
