Westminster council adopts fee schedule for Wakefield Valley Clubhouse

The Westminster mayor and common council on Nov. 10 adopted Resolution 25-10, establishing fees for use of the newly renovated Wakefield Valley Clubhouse and Pavilion. Administrator Simholz told the council the fees are needed "in response to the investment in a significant improvement to the facility and the opening of the newly renovated space."

The finance committee chair described the fee schedule as "dynamic pricing," saying it was designed so "city residents and also businesses that are located here in the city will always pay the lowest rate that's available at that time." The chair also emphasized staff's effort to fund the Wakefield project without relying on city tax dollars, noting the council combined state and other funds to complete the renovation.

Council debate was brief and largely supportive. Multiple members praised the Wakefield Valley Event Center's opening and its regional draw; one member told staff they expect high community demand and asked about scheduling logistics. After discussion, a motion to adopt Resolution 25-10 was moved and seconded. The chair called for a voice vote; after verbal "ayes," the chair stated "the ayes have it, and we have adopted the price drop."

The resolution follows a contract with Wickersham Construction and Engineering Inc. to renovate the clubhouse and pavilion. Staff said proposed fees are intended to defray improvement costs and offset operating expenses while leaving room for future adjustments if market conditions warrant. Council members said they expect to monitor utilization and make rate changes as needed.

Next steps: staff will implement the fee schedule and begin accepting reservations for the Wakefield Valley Clubhouse and Pavilion under the newly adopted rates. Council members asked staff to report back on utilization and any recommended adjustments after the venue has been in operation.
