Parks and community projects: The Recreation & Parks department and volunteers, with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, planted a food forest in Wakefield Valley to add native fruit and nut trees and improve habitat and soil health. Recreation staff outlined the Miracle on Main Street festival on Saturday, Nov. 29, including family activities, live entertainment, an ice rink in Locust Lane, a Jingle Bell Run at 4:55 p.m., a parade and a tree-lighting ceremony in the evening.
Public works and lighting: Council members thanked the public works crews for downtown holiday lighting and related preparations that helped set the downtown look for the season.
Public safety: Police representative Keith Price said the department will deploy additional high-visibility holiday patrols and conduct impaired-driving enforcement in shopping corridors to enhance public safety during the season.
Citizen comment: A resident identifying their address as 195 West Main Street thanked the technology department for an operational city website that allowed them to pay water and property tax bills successfully.
No departmental items required council action during the meeting; the reports were informational and staff will continue event preparations and seasonal enforcement.
