Council approves appointments and backs Hopewell Public Schools’ construction application
Summary
Council approved two appointments from closed session, and directed the city manager to send a support letter for Hopewell Public Schools’ application to the Virginia Board of Education School Construction Assistance Program.
Following the closed session, the council voted on appointments and a support letter. Vice Mayor Joiner moved to come out of closed session and Mayor requested certification under Virginia Code. Council then approved the appointment of Stephanie Day to Keep Hopewell Beautiful and Sharrah Fuller to the Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority after a motion by Councilor Rapoli and a second by Vice Mayor Joyner.
Separately, Councilor Jay moved and Councilor Ellis seconded a motion directing the city manager to issue a letter in support of Hopewell Public Schools’ application to the Virginia Board of Education School Construction Assistance Program in substantially the form presented; the motion passed on roll call.
Both actions were recorded and will be implemented by city staff: the appointments take effect per administrative process and the city manager’s office will send the requested support letter to the state board.
Next steps: appointments will be processed administratively; the school support letter will be sent to the Virginia Board of Education as directed.
