“The request in the contract that we've been sent from CREDC was for a $110,000 each year. Previously, we had been contributing $100,000 a year,” Jordan Bogie, county staff, told the council when summarizing the organization’s submitted draft.
Councilor Fuentes recused himself from deliberation because of his position on CREDC’s executive board. Councilor Belcott and others questioned CREDC’s recent performance and whether earlier work—such as a Cholachee railroad job‑project list—met the county’s expectations. Other councilors said CREDC provides region‑wide economic development services the county lacks and recommended giving the organization time to stabilize while a new executive director is recruited.
Councilor Little moved to proceed with a two‑year contract set at $100,000 per year; colleagues discussed whether to add a requirement to update the Cholachee railroad report as part of the scope. Staff said no final contract would be approved today and that a Tuesday meeting would be required for final approval; several councilors asked staff to prepare multiple draft options and to include verbiage allowing county‑requested projects to be negotiated in the coming year.
