Board approves two settlements in executive session: $30,000 and $115,000

Following a closed executive session on litigation and real estate, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners approved two settlement agreements and authorized the chief financial officer to amend the budget as needed.
The board approved a $30,000 settlement in the case of Keanu James Groover v. defendants (case number 124CV05154LMM, Northern District of Georgia), relating to alleged injuries while incarcerated at the county jail in November 2022. The board also approved a $115,000 settlement in a claim by Christopher George concerning an accident at Terrell Boulevard and Monday's Mill Road on Jan. 16, 2024. County counsel presented both settlement figures during the executive session and the board approved them by voice vote.
The board authorized the CFO to amend the budget to reflect appropriate revenue and expense accounting for the settlement payments.
