Clayton County approves one-year lobbying contract with GeorgiaLink; RFP can run in tandem

The board voted to authorize a professional services agreement with GeorgiaLink Public Affairs Group LLC to provide lobbying and consulting services to Clayton County.
Staff reminded commissioners that the county can run an RFP process while having a short-term contract in place, allowing the county to maintain representation during the upcoming legislative session and still vet firms through an open RFP process. Commissioners had discussed whether hiring now would preclude a competitive process later; staff said it would not.
The resolution authorizing the contract was moved, seconded and approved at the meeting. Commissioners who raised concerns about accountability asked staff to require regular monthly reporting from the contract firm.
The board also discussed the timing of an RFP and the value of inviting legislative delegation members to a work session to clarify overlapping services already provided to the county.
