County planners report housing amendments effective, goal updates adopted and staffing news

Planning Manager David Cook reviewed the monthly project status report for the Clatsop County Planning Commission, noting recent board actions and upcoming items.
"The housing amendments... were readopted by the board on remand, back in September," Cook said, and he added the appeal period has ended; he stated the amendments were in effect on Oct. 10. Cook also reported updates to Goal 18 were adopted by the board and, pending any appeals, should take effect in early November.
Cook said the board adopted Goal exceptions and text and map amendments related to Army Corps dredging projects in the Columbia River, and the transcript lists several ordinance identifiers associated with that action.
In her director's report, Henriksen said staff will assist the fair board with updating its 2009 strategic plan, welcomed new planning commissioner Wayne Carmichael, confirmed there will be no meeting on Nov. 11 (Veterans Day), previewed legislative amendments from the 2025 session and said staff will revisit out-of-date sign regulations and consider an administrative variance process. Henriksen also reported a planner job offer with a Nov. 10 start date and hiring plans for code-compliance and permit-technology replacements.
The commission had no questions on the project-status items and adjourned the meeting after routine business.
