Yamhill leaders push 'Authentic Yamhill' historic district and set downtown beautification tasks

YAMHILL, Ore. — Yamhill Mayor Shay Corey and members of the city council and economic development committee used a July 30 work session to begin turning long-discussed downtown ideas into assignments, agreeing to pursue a locally defined historic-district designation and to move forward with a beautification plan that includes trees, seasonal lights and flowerpots.
"If you don't write down what you want, somebody else will come down and do the thing that you don't want done," Mayor Shay Corey said as she urged council to codify an "Authentic Yamhill" approach for the Central Business District. The council discussed using the existing CBD overlay (Isalia Street to Third Street) as the starting point for design standards.
