The City of West Fargo Public Library Board voted Thursday to approve an HR recommendation to regrade the marketing and communications specialist from grade 12 to grade 13 and to authorize associated back pay.
Unidentified Speaker 3 told the board the change followed a May job-description update and an HR regrade requested to ensure pay alignment. "The only position ... that did indicate a recommendation to change a grade was our marketing and communication specialist," the presenter said, adding the recommendation was to move that role from grade 12 to grade 13.
The memo shared with the board included estimated back-pay amounts if the board chose to apply retroactive pay to the beginning of the year, consistent with how the board handled 2024 grade changes. Board members asked whether the added costs were included in next year’s budget; staff replied the 2026 budget had room to accommodate the regrade and that current-year reserves would not be unduly impacted because of open positions. Unidentified Speaker 2 moved to approve the regrade and back pay; the motion was seconded and carried.
Board members directed staff to process the HR action as approved and noted that future hiring could affect classification decisions if new candidates are hired at higher step levels.
