Las Vegas Arts Commission approves Oct. minutes, hears project and education updates

The City of Las Vegas Arts Commission approved the Oct. 16, 2025 minutes, heard staff updates on multiple public-art projects and reviewed next year’s Public Art and Education series during its Nov. 20 meeting.
Chair Beals called the meeting to order at 04:00 and a deputy city clerk confirmed a quorum. Commissioner Cherk moved to approve the Oct. 16 minutes; Commissioner Westfield seconded and the chair announced the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff provided a slate of project updates. Laura Machado said "Waiting on a Light on the Corner" by David Ryan is under fabrication at YESCO and remains on track for completion in February 2026. Parker Recchi described AMP Gateway and Arts District selections and said 10 artists were chosen for that project; Mary Sabo updated the commission on engineering reviews for the Boulder Plaza sculpture and selection processes for Centennial Hills Park and the Hualapai Canyon Trailhead gateway project.
Staff also previewed upcoming cultural events. The commission highlighted the Tamales and Mariachi Festival on Dec. 6, a CritChat meetup Dec. 16 and the unveiling of Crystal Ramirez’s new sculpture "The Night We Met" scheduled for Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. Laura Machado said the earlier hour was chosen to maximize media attendance, linking the unveiling to the mayor's 10 a.m. Thursday news conference.
Parker Recchi and other staff encouraged commissioners to attend the 2026 Public Art and Education events, which will include CritChat sessions, proposal workshops and artist panels through June 2026. The commission then moved on to agenda items to be addressed in January and adjourned at 04:27.
