The Coatesville Area School District Education Committee on Oct. 14 recommended a slate of routine approvals and program proposals to the full board, including affiliation agreements, confidential student placements and curricular subscriptions.
The committee approved affiliation agreements for the district's nursing program with Millersville and an affiliation agreement with the University of Phoenix (with a rider) and moved an affiliation agreement with West Chester University forward for full board consideration. Chair (unnamed in the committee transcript) said the items were bundled for efficiency and drew no substantive objections.
The committee also approved two student placements at the Pathway School at a stated cost of $72,875 per student. "The cost is $72,875 per student," the chair said and the committee moved the placements forward by voice vote. These placements were presented as confidential in part because they pertain to individual students.
The board approved a one‑year subscription package from Everway, covering Unique Learning Systems, SymbolSticks and News‑2‑You, to support students with moderate to severe cognitive impairments at a quoted cost of $21,375.74. A staff member described Unique Learning Systems as an alternative curriculum and SymbolSticks as a visual‑communication tool to create communication boards. "It's a full curriculum... and it helps to support their learning," the staff member said.
The committee also advanced a proposal to establish a two‑year volunteer after‑school art club at Reesville Elementary that Erica Rosiello, the school's art teacher, would run. The chair described the goal as providing projects and materials beyond regular class hours; the board agreed to move the item forward.
Other items moved to the full board included a ratification of a Junior ROTC fundraiser, a renewal of the Learning A‑to‑Z contract (listed at $8,721) to avoid service disruption for English learners, and a memorandum of understanding with Compass Mark for prevention services in several elementary schools and an in‑depth high‑school program at a total cost of $16,480. An administrator said the Compass Mark consortium work is funded by Title III and available carryover, and that the EL professional development work will be provided through the CCIU.
The committee closed with the district's enrollment report and a note that comprehensive planning activity will begin Oct. 22 with about 45 selected stakeholders.
Next steps: all approved items are being recommended for full board consideration at the end‑of‑month meeting on Oct. 28, 2025.
