The Oak Creek Common Council on Dec. 2 approved an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District (MMSD) for a regional main interceptor sewer along South 27th Street from Oakwood Road to the county line.

A staff presenter, delegated on behalf of Brian Johnston, outlined the project: installation of a 24-inch sanitary sewer extending approximately 5,300 feet, construction of a drop manhole requiring a shaft up to 76 feet deep with portions upsized from 28‑ to 35‑foot diameter, and anticipated project milestones (design approved March 2024, bidding expected December 2025, and construction anticipated in 2026). The presenter described the total project cost as about $58,000,000 and said the city utility is responsible for roughly 22% of the cost of the drop-structure elements that the utility will own and maintain.

City staff said they intend to return to the council with a proposal for a special assessment to recover costs from benefited properties. The motion to enter the intergovernmental agreement (Resolution 12636) was moved and approved by roll call.

Council members did not request further substantive amendments at the meeting; staff offered to answer follow-up questions and to bring assessment details back for council consideration.
