Kawana Moffett presented the Family Connections/Teammates program report to the Coffee County Board of Education on Nov. 20, describing large community involvement and positive survey results from student participants.
"This has been our first year, in a couple of years being able to have it," Moffett said, recounting that the program had been canceled the previous year because of a storm. She said Teammates included dramatizations, community responder panels and 12 instructional sessions led by local professionals.
Moffett reported event statistics: volunteers and participants numbered 141, families represented were 116, 517 students participated directly and total attendance summed to 658. She said 24 different organizations staffed informational tables and community partners included local law enforcement, fire, EMS and a regional medical center. Organizers provided door prizes and donated items to support participation.
Student survey results were a central focus of the presentation. Moffett said "over 90%" of student respondents reported a positive experience; more than 85% said they would "definitely or likely think more carefully about their choices" after the program. She listed common takeaways students reported: reflection on peer pressure, mental-health awareness, substance-prevention messaging and digital safety.
Board members praised the work and tied the program into broader school-improvement goals; no formal action was taken on the report.
