Berwick Area SD board appoints temporary president, confirms committees and meeting schedule

The Berwick Area School District board opened its reorganization meeting by appointing Mark Nesperoot as temporary president and moving through nominations for permanent officers and representatives.

Board members nominated Jared Yost and others for president and closed nominations by motion. The board also took nominations for vice president and confirmed that a sitting secretary (identified in the meeting as Missus Gregory) will remain in the role through her term noted as expiring 02/29.

Members discussed how to schedule committee meetings and regular board meetings. After a poll of members, the board decided to keep the structure discussed at the meeting — committee night followed by a board meeting, generally on the first and second Monday — rather than reverting to a single combined work session. The decision was settled by roll-call-style polling of members during the meeting.

The board confirmed several standing committees and volunteers: buildings and grounds (members named during the meeting), budget committee (Jim, Jeff and Mark among those named), policy committee (Clint and Jared among those named), human resources and security assignments, and a negotiations committee. The board also confirmed a VOTEC representative for a three-year term and sought an alternate.

The board agreed that Jared Yost would again serve as the PSBA legislative chairperson for the coming year. The meeting closed the reorganization items and proceeded to regular business.

Next procedural steps noted by the board: committee assignments will be used to populate upcoming committee agendas and the district will hold a committee-of-the-whole meeting on Jan. 5 and the regular board meeting Jan. 12.
