Commission approves routine licenses and payroll notices, hears board-applicant interviews

Coffey County commissioners completed routine consent business and interviewed several volunteers seeking appointment to county boards.

Consent business: The board approved minutes from Nov. 3, 2025, and approved county-clerk recommendations to notify township boards about 2026 cereal malt beverage license applications for Fuel Expresso 11 and TravelCenters of America. Commissioners also approved payroll notices and step/wage changes for several jail staff members, including Dalton Rush, Donnie Seiter, Felix Nunez and Jim Cole.

Board interviews: Commissioners interviewed multiple applicants for open seats. Doug Burke and Dustin Bluma spoke about planning and zoning interests and said they would follow code and process when neighborhood opposition arose. James Higgins, Brian (phone caller) and Bill Parker discussed housing authority roles; Higgins emphasized rehabilitation and first-time-home efforts and said the housing authority should pursue grant opportunities, while Parker (incumbent) highlighted ongoing rehab programs and grant capture. Applicants acknowledged potential conflicts (ownership of rental properties or realtor activity) and deferred specific operational questions to staff when necessary.
