Las Vegas Council appoints Peter Bellin interim municipal court judge for Department 2

The Las Vegas City Council on Dec. 3 appointed Peter Bellin as interim municipal court judge for Department 2.
Human Resources Director Vince Zamora summarized the recruitment: the position opened Oct. 15 and closed Oct. 26, nine applicants applied, eight were eligible for panel interviews, and the interview panel advanced candidates for council interviews. Councilmembers interviewed the top candidates on Nov. 17 and the panel identified Peter Bellin, John Lavery, and Taylor Smith as the top three. Based on the ranking order, Mayor Pro Tem Knudson moved to appoint Peter Bellin; the motion carried.
Bellin, who said he practices in private practice and has nearly 35 years of legal experience, told the council he will act as a caretaker judge until a regularly scheduled election can select a permanent judge next year. The council congratulated Bellin and took photographs; no additional council action was recorded.
