Committee members described small-scale beautification projects aimed at activating storefronts and bringing seasonal foot traffic to downtown. After attending an Oregon Main Street session on storefront activation, members proposed volunteer-driven efforts to refresh window displays and organize a holiday pop-up market in a vacant storefront.
Members said local volunteers and building owners were receptive; the downtown association reported additional donations from recent fundraising that could be applied to seasonal lighting and micro-projects. The committee discussed recycling and collection of used holiday lights, fundraising and volunteer labor (including access to bucket trucks and community equipment) to keep costs low.
Possible funding strategies included applying for storefront-improvement grants through Oregon Main Street, seeking small donations or using proceeds from a potential sale of a small city-owned 'flag' lot (staff is researching market value). Members agreed to continue volunteer recruitment and to include an update on micro-projects and lighting options at the Dec. 2 meeting.
