Coffey County approves corrected change order and $9,900 reimbursement on Airport Access Road project

The Coffey County Board of County Commissioners approved a corrected Change Order No. 5 for construction on the CDBG Airport Access Road Phase 2 on a unanimous voice vote.

Public works staff and a representative for the prime contractor reviewed line-item changes tied to mobilization and earthwork quantities. The board rescinded an earlier motion from its Nov. 10 meeting to allow staff to replace an earlier, incorrect document and then voted to approve the revised change order for a total of $48,717.26. Commissioner McCurry moved the motion and Commissioner Peterson seconded it; the board voted aye and the motion carried.

County staff told commissioners the contractor reduced its mobilization charge and that CFS Engineers — the county’s consulting firm — agreed to reimburse the county $9,900, representing 50% of the earthwork and fill line item. Staff said the reimbursement resulted from a survey‑software issue that occurred during the design phase; CFS Engineers’ direct payment will be recorded as a check to the county to be applied against that line item.

The board’s discussion clarified that the change order funds are made up of multiple line items and quantity adjustments rather than a single lump‑sum increase. Commissioners asked staff to ensure documentation of the contractor reduction and the CFS Engineers reimbursement is added to the file and available to auditors.

The county moved forward with the corrected change order and directed the Chairman to sign the document. No individual dissenting votes were recorded.
