Road & Bridge supervisor Adam Pope updated the board on completed asphalt and chip-seal projects, upcoming patching and gravel work and reported a projected finish date for the Highway 58 bridge around Thanksgiving. Pope then presented equipment recommendations and bid results.
The board moved to declare a 2009 John Deere blade (VIN DW770GP628227) surplus and to dispose of it via trade to Murphy Tractor & Equipment for $40,000; the chair read a notice that the board’s intention to dispose would be published on 10/30/2025 and 11/06/2025 in the county newspaper. The motion was moved and seconded and the board voted in favor.
Based on the supervisor’s recommendation, the board next approved acceptance of Murphy Tractor & Equipment’s bid for a 2026 John Deere motor grader. The purchase price reported to the board was $308,505 after recognizing a $40,000 trade-in for the 2009 blade; funds were to come from the General Fund Public Works equipment line item. Commissioners discussed equipment life-cycle planning and warranty expectations during the vote.
The board also approved a bid from Sandcrest Trailer Sales for a 2026 Diamond C FMAX2 10 trailer (35-foot, higher GVW) at $22,000 to replace an older trailer. The supervisor said the county will attempt to sell the replaced trailer in spring.
All three motions were presented, seconded and recorded as carried during the meeting. No dissenting votes were recorded in the transcript.
