The Moscow City Council approved its consent agenda at the start of the Nov. 17 meeting and then moved through scheduled public comment and council reports.
An unidentified councilmember moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and the roll call recorded ayes from councilmembers, after which the mayor moved to the regular agenda.
During public comment, William, who identified himself as the owner of a local bagel shop, thanked the community for supporting his family during a recent medical emergency, described help from customers who helped with bills, and said his business may soon sign a lease on a new location. He used the Hebrew phrase "tikkun olam" (repairing the world) to frame the community response and asked to speak with council members after the meeting.
Council reports filled the remainder of the agenda. Councilmember Drew noted the Orchid Awards hosted by the Historic Preservation Commission and gave an update on Farmers Market Commission policy work. Councilmember Gina reported that the Tree Commission reached full membership and discussed a proposed certification/recertification requirement for people working on city trees as well as seedling giveaways and Arbor Day planning. Councilmember Sandra reminded residents about community events (Pets with Santa, an Alternative Giving Market) and urged continued support for local food pantries. Councilmember Haley briefed the council on Smart Transit (noting the executive director is resigning for health reasons), regional committee meetings, and Town and Gown events with university ROTC participants.
The mayor announced a post-election transition: Haley will become mayor and several new faces will join the dais; the mayor also noted that the mayor traditionally serves as co-chair of the airport board and encouraged attendance at the Light Up the Season parade on Dec. 4.
The council adjourned by unanimous voice vote.
