Centennial superintendent outlines facility summit, new timekeeping rollout and $20,000 tech grant for Butler Creek

At the Oct. 22 work session, Superintendent Owens updated the Centennial School Board on several operational and community partnership items. Owens also reported on recent targeted collaborative sessions with campus safety liaisons and facilities staff intended to move from listening to solution‑oriented work. "This week we celebrate America's Safe Schools Week," Owens said, thanking campus safety liaisons for their role supporting students and staff.
Transportation director Suzanne described routine safety procedures and training used on every bus trip, noting pre‑trip vehicle checks, air‑brake inspections, emergency‑exit tests and evacuation drills. "We have an amazing, hardworking team," Suzanne said, and she urged students to follow bus rules to stay safe.
The district will implement TimeClock Plus as a new electronic timekeeping system for hourly employees. Owens said the system has been piloted in custodial and nutrition services and is scheduled for broader deployment next month with training and technical support.
Owens announced Butler Creek Elementary received a $20,000 technology award through Intel’s national competition in partnership with Best Buy; the award was coordinated by a local Best Buy employee and will fund touchscreen Chromebooks, printers, a public‑address system and digital signage. Owens also described a site visit to Nike’s campus to thank the company for classroom furniture donations and to explore additional redistribution opportunities.
Owens closed by reminding board members about the OSBA fall regional dinner (Oct. 30) and promoting Centennial High School’s Eagle Expo showcasing student senior projects.
