Geary County launches searchable snow-removal maps and live truck tracker on website

The maps identify which entity is responsible for snow clearance along specific roads and include contact phone numbers for the responsible parties.
Unidentified staff member (Speaker 5) demonstrated the feature during the meeting, showing an address-searchable map and a legend that links colors to responsible entities. "You can get in there, and search your address," Speaker 5 said, explaining the map pulls up the responsible party and phone number for each road. The same web page also includes a "live view" of snow-removal vehicles: moving trucks are shown as green triangles, parked trucks as green circles and off trucks as black circles.
Commissioners and department heads praised the tool as a practical way to cut down on calls about which agency handles a road. "It's awesome," one commissioner said of the map demonstration. Several speakers noted limitations of the county’s current online licensing and reporting tools and suggested expanding public reporting features in 2026.
The county is positioning the map as a resource for both residents and staff to streamline winter-weather responses; no formal action or new funding was taken at the meeting. Staff said they will continue to refine the feature and consider additional public-reporting capabilities next year.
